Apprenticeship Week 2015

3 events were held across the borough - Rochdale Leisure Centre, The Birch Hotel - Heywood and Middleton Arena.

As usual providers were available to talk to about thier specific vacancies.

Apprenticeship Vacancy Event - Rochdale Town Hall - 2nd July 2014 - 4-7pm

Providers and colleges with live apprenticeship vacancies were available to speak to at the last Apprenticeship Vacancies event. We've got the next ones planned in March 2015.

Future First 2014

15th October 2014 - Sports Arena, Hopwood Hall College, Middleton Campus.

This fantstic event brings all pathways together to support our young people to make a decision about the most appriopriate pathway for them.

Universities, Colleges, 6th Form Colleges, Training Providers and some employers will be present in the Sports Arena. This year the interactive "Have a Go" activities will be mixed in with the providers stands and showcase some of the activities which can be carried out during training in the various occupational/vocational areas.

All the secondary schools in the Borough have been invited and most are visiting the event during the school days.

The evening session, from 4-7pm is where parents and carers can bring their children and talk to providers about the different routes and courses available for them when leaving school. We know that parents and carers are the main source of information when children are deciding their future, make sure you have all the facts. Put your child's Future First.

Apprenticeship Shop - Middleton Arcade

Between January and March 2014 the RADAMA network have had a pop up shop in Middleton Arcade, advertising all vacancies available from the providers in the network. Help is on hand from most of the providers each week and both Poisitive Steps and the National Careers Service also have been available at various time to offer their support too.
It's been a successful venture; thanks to RMBC for funding the premises for the duration. We have had over 600 people so far leaving their details with us in application for an apprenticeship.  We have had lots of parents and grandparents come in for a chat about they can help their family members to get into work. We've even had a good number of employers wanting to find out more about how they can work with us and offer an Apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship Vacancy List

There is an updated Vacancy List uploaded on to the Apprenticeship Vacancy Page usually weekly. Further details of each vacancy can be found by visiting the providers own websites. You can also get to this page directly by visiting www.apprenticeshipvacanciesinrochdalemiddletonandheywood.co.uk - Probably the longest web page you'll come across but it "does what it says on the tin"!

There is some financial support available for employers from a governement scheme called "The Age Grant". Please feel free to contact us for further details.

2. Employ someone aged 16-24 in an apprenticeship position that must last for a minimum of 12 months and have a contract of employment.
3. Pay your apprentice no less that £2.65phr
4. Be able to support your apprentice through their full qualification.

You can claim up to 10 "age grant" payments if you have employed your Apprentice(s) since Feb 2012.
Your grant of £1500 per apprentice will be paid to you after they have been working towards their Apprenticeship programme for at least 13 weeks.

Commission for the New Economy Grant - this is no longer available (Feb 2014)

In addition, if you employ someone who was not in education, employment or training (NEET) prior to commencing employment with you, you could be eligible for an extra £750.

Work Trials

If employers are recruiting an Apprentice, they can access the "Work Trials" programme.
This is where an employer takes on a young person for upto 8 weeks of extended work experience which also involves doing some work towards their qualification.
The person will be paid
£40 a week by the training provider (16-18 yrs and are currently NEET) and via vouchers if claiming JSA (18-24).
During that period of work trial the training provider will keep in touch with the employer to check on their progress.
At anytime within that 8 weeks the employer can stop the work trial and agree to employ the young person into an Apprenticeship.
If the employer keeps the learner for 8 weeks they must agree to employ them after this onto an Apprentiship qualification.
If you require more information on this programme, please contact RADAMA.

GCSE and A'Level Results Days 2011

RADAMA attended a number of Rochdale schools over the August period to support the young people receiving their GCSE and A'Level exam results. Here's what some of the Training Provider staff had to say......

"The results seemed to be well recieved and there were lots of very happy people. I had several conversations but generally students were too excited to talk properly! Those that did already knew what they were going to do next."
Mark Whittaker from Hopwood Hall College attended Wardle High School.

" Mantra Learning attended Middleton Technology College for both the GCSE and A'Level results days. Both days were very emotional and exciting for students and were well attended. We made ourselves available to talk to students throughout both days and inform them as to the possible Apprenticeship routes available.

The vast majority of A'Level students were interested in Health Care or Engineering and we gave them impartial advice as to who talk to regarding these Apprenticeships.

GCSE students were interested in Motor Vehicle, Heath and Social Care, Engineering and Hair and Beauty. Again these students were given as much information as we could which would help them make an informed choice.

We hope the students found our presence, and help, useful"
Lisa Dalloway and team - Mantra Learning attended Middleton Technology College.

"It was a pleasure to be around the Yr 11 students receiving their results. The atmosphere was terrific."
Bev Harmstone - Hopwood Hall College attended Siddal Moor Sports College

Well Done from RADAMA; to all Rochdale, Middleton and Heywood Students.
